For centuries, the people of Southeast Asia have appreciated Mangosteen fruit and Mangosteen Juice for its many claimed life-improving and life-sustaining benefits. Mangosteen fruit is oftentimes referred to as the “Queen of Fruits.” Recent scientific findings support some of the accolades conventional healers have attributed to the fruit and its juice. In particular, scientific studies have revealed the exceptional benefits of Mangosteen’s rich supply of antioxidants known as Xanthones. (Scientists have identified approximately 200 different types of Xanthones, and the Mangosteen fruit contains more than 40 of them.) It is no wonder that a growing number of health practicians are recommending Mangosteen to their clients.
Although concerns surrounding the Asian fruit fly has kept whole Mangosteen fruit out of the United States, that situation changed in 2007 when imports were allowed upon USDA approval of irradiation, boxing and shipping techniques. Mangosteen purees and Mangosteen Juice have been available for quite some time.
Some commonly reported benefits of Mangosteen fruit include: *Preventing premature aging *Helping with weight loss *Increased energy levels *Increased joint flexibility *Reduced pain associated with common ailments
Mangosteen is often promoted and marketed as part of an upcoming category of functional foods known as “superfoods” or “superfruits.” Mangosteen has a combination of appealing characteristics, such as taste, fragrance and visual quality as well as nutrient richness, antioxidant strength and possible impact for lowering risk against human diseases.
The healing compounds in mangosteen (xanthones) are powerful antioxidants that are structurally similar to flavonoids. Mangosteen is thought to be one of the richest sources of xanthones.
Mangosteen is claimed to impede the oxidation of bad cholesterol (LDL) and in that regard may contribute to heart health. Mangosteen research indicates other cardiovascular benefits from the xanthones contained in mangosteen as well, including blood pressure health.
Additional claims of Mangosteen include:
- safeguarding brain cells against free radical and other kinds of damage; – boosting immune-stimulating activities; – reducing inflammation and relieving pain; and – some antifungal properties.
